Prejudice
Prejudice, its a big nasty word. A word that no one likes to be associated with. But so many people are guilty of being prejudiced, so many people do it everyday, but no one wants to admit it. Why? Because no one likes the idea that they’re not perfect, which shatters 90% of most people’s self-delusioned pride.
To judge someone based on appearance, (eg. the clothing they wear) is just as bad as judging someone based on their skin color.
It is this kind of prejudice that people are most guilty of - because most of the time they don’t even understand that they’re doing it.
Judgment by first impression is totally overrated. Take me for example. Most people get the idea that I’m weird. But then after knowing me they understand that I am just as normal as anyone else, I just choose a more open way in my method of self-expression. I don’t let the rules of society hinder my existence to the point where I am a sheep in a herd. I’m sorry that I don’t look like I just fell out of the Gap. But I also don’t care to look like a herd animal. I value my individuality greatly and I make it known. People oft don’t like what they don’t understand, people don’t understand things so don’t do them. The “idea” doesn’t appeal to them therefore they feel it put into action is beneath them. Is inferior.
Now the last time someone thought something was inferior you know what they did. They tried to exterminate a whole race of people.
Misunderstanding breeds hate, because what you don’t understand is foreign to you. People don’t like things that are different from them. Therefore they develop a hate, a dislike for them. This turns into the person then feeling themselves superior to the difference and this fuels the hatred and dislike.
So why don’t people just live and let live. It is so much easier to disregard something you don’t like. Why hate it? You can accomplish nothing in its end. Only the destruction of the human race...
